Iran to send OPEC Governor to Doha Meeting

A senior Iranian oil official said Iran will be represented by its OPEC Governor, Hossein Kazempour Ardebili, at the upcoming meeting of oil producers in Doha.

A senior Iranian oil official said Iran will be represented by its OPEC Governor, Hossein Kazempour Ardebili, at the upcoming meeting of oil producers in Doha.

Akbar Nematollahi, director general of public relations at Iranian Ministry of Petroleum, said Kazempour Ardebili will represent Iran at the April 17 meeting of oil producers including members of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC). The meeting is being held to finalize a proposed production freeze plan in a bid to curb falling oil price slump.

Irans Minister of Petroleum Bijan Zangeneh is not attending the meeting as the country has clearly announced it will not follow suit of the freeze plan. The plan was proposed in February by major producers including Russia and Saudi Arabia in a meeting in Qatars Doha.

Tehran has said it approves of the plan but will not join it before it brings its oil exports to the pre-sanctions levels.

"The representative of Iran at the OPEC Board of Governors is attending the meeting to announce Tehrans support for any move at Doha meeting that will lead to better market conditions," said Nematollahi.
