Deputy Director of the Exploration Department at National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC), Bahman Soleimani, says early studies on exploration in Oman Sea have yielded good results.

"Completion of studies and exploration drilling in Oman Seas has been envisioned in the Sixth Five-Year Economic Development Plan (2016-21)," said Soleimani in an interview with Shana.

He said exploration activities in Oman Sea are among serious exploration goals in the future. "Up to so far (both before and after the Islamic Revolution), we have not had any exploration drilling operation in Oman Sea but in the Sixth Plan, complementary studies and then onshore drilling have been envisioned in the sector."

Referring to completion of the exploration studies in Oman Sea, the official said based on the Sixth Plan, complementary and drilling studies on exploration well in Oman Sea is on agenda.

"The geological and geochemical studies in northern coastlines of Oman Sea in Mokran area are seriously followed by the exploration department and the second phase of such a study project is getting defined and implemented."
