Due to last year"s severe cold in the northern and northeastern parts of the country and the cessation of gas imports from Turkmenistan at that time, gas reproduction from Shourijeh D storage facility, which is the only gas storage facility in the Northeast part of the country and the largest storage facility in the Middle East has increased by 43% compared to the same period last year.

Abolhassan Mohammadi, CEO of East Oil and Gas Production Company, referring to the need for building storage facilities to supply consumed gas in the country, said: Sustainable energy supply in the north and northeast part of the country and the distance of these areas from the main gas production centers in the south of Iran has always been one of the concerns of the management of the Iranian Central Oil Fields Company.

Mohammadi also referred to the amount of natural gas injected into the Shourijeh storage facility in the first four months of the current year and added: "So far, 950 million cubic meters of gas has been injected into this reservoir, which is 97% of the injection plan, which shows a 55% increase compared to the same period last year."

He said: It is expected that with the realization of gas injection and storage plan, we will be able to withdraw about 17 mcm of gas from the aforementioned reservoir at the peak of daily consumption this year.

Regarding to the maximum daily gas injected and reproduced from Shourijeh D reservoir, Mohammadi said: In the warm season, a maximum of 12 million and 500 thousand cubic meters of gas is injected into the reservoir and at the peak of cold season, a maximum of 16 million and 700 thousand cubic meters is reproduced. Also, since the beginning of the operation of this project in 1993, eight billion and 763 million cubic meters of gas has been injected and stored, and seven billion and 264 million cubic meters of gas has been reproduced.

The report adds that Shourijeh D at Khangiran gas field is one of the most important gas storage facilities, which was discovered and put into operation in 1987. This reservoir is mainly composed of sandstone. In recent years, until the end of 2018, 906, 1262, 1260 and 1200 million cubic meters of gas has been reproduced from this reservoir, respectively.

According to ICOFC Public Relations East Oil and Gas Production Company, based in Mashhad city, is one the three ICOFC subsidiaries within Khorasan Razavi, Northern and Southern Khorasan provinces. There are two gas fields under EOGPC, named Khangiran and Gonbadli, which supply gas demand of North and East part of the country. Company"s gas output is transferred to Shahid Hashemi Nejad gas refinery before consumption.
