Iran is extracting the worlds lightest, highest quality crude oil from Hengam oil field which Iran shares with Oman. Director of Qeshm Special Economic Zone Projects at Iranian Offshore Oil Company (IOOC) said recovery of oil from the field began in 2010 and Iran has so far recovered more than 35 million barrels of crude oil from the offshore oil field. Heidar Yarveisi said the crude recovered from the fields is 51 API which is unrivaled in the world. He said recently a new well has been spudded in the field which has drawn such excellent crude oil that is white or green. Iran offers crude oil with API gravity ranging from 18 to 36.5 while the oil recovered from Hengam oilfield is of 51 API, he said. The new extra light crude enjoys several outstanding characteristic including high gas oil and gas fuel production rate as well as high API gravity to the extent that its color is white unlike common crude oil types which are black or brown.
