The CEO of the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) said the country"s natural gas production capacity had reached 1 billion cubic meters per day.
Addressing a press conference on the sidelines of the 25th Iran Oil, Gas, Refining and Petrochemical Exhibition on Saturday, Hassan Montazer Torbati announced the increase in daily production of natural gas in the country, and said: "Iran is a major producer of gas and in these days the country"s total gas production has reached about one billion cubic meters per day, equivalent to about 6 million barrels of oil per day, which is a significant figure."
He ruled out rumors about reduction of production and pressure in South Pars, adding: "The country"s gas consumption has now reached more than 600 million cubic meters per day with the decrease of air temperature in the domestic sector. In the power plant sector, 100 to 130 million cubic meters of gas is consumed daily."
The official further said that there is currently 900 mcm of gas transmission capacity in the country, calling on the people to conserve consumption of the national treasury.
The Deputy Minister of Petroleum for Gas Affairs continued: "Fortunately, the country"s gas industry is highly relying on domestic capabilities and all the items used in the distribution sector are manufactured domestically."
